First of all, I apologize for this rather weird quoting behaviour of my webmail. :-)

Anyway, UP faculty salary starts at a little less than 15K. Yes, it is that low.
Chances are your parents may not be happy if you end up teaching in UP, specially if
they have invested a lot on you to get education from the expensive schools of the
country. A friend of mine decided to go to Ateneo (and his brother to DLSU) because of
their parents investment in educational plans - even if they wanted to go to UP -
sayang naman daw. [in part, I agree].

Orly, why are you coughing when you mentioned Imperial College? :-)

The problem with that scheme is -- let's say you teach at ADMU, which is
one of the better-paying schools out there (related to your 2nd question).
Or worse, IS.

Those parents are paying your employer big bucks so that THEIR beloved
brats can get an education. If you academic-Darwinism your students and
they fail your courses, pretty soon employment mo yung ma-a-academic
Darwinism.

Turo ka sa UP, where your employment is not dependent on parents'
goodwill. Comparatively less naman ang sweldo.

And alam ko sa UP sub-20k ang starting. Baka sub-15k pa nga eh.. of course
UP yun. Alam ko Ateneo is better in this regard. Pero at least sa UP,
pwede ka mag postgrad at no cost. Baka makapunta ka pa sa Purdue or sa
Imperial College UK (*cough cough*) hehehehehehehe..
