at last motorola updated their sm56 drivers. the bad news is that the
drivers are only for redhat 7.3, 8.0 and 9 . i'm using slackware 9.0
with kernel 2.4.21 . the i performed an rpm -ivh --nodeps --force on
their driver, the program said that it can only work on kernels 2.4.18,
2.4.20 and 2.4.22, so i downgraded my kernel to 2.4.20 (which is on the
cd) .

when i installed the driver, there are "kernel taint" warnings (we'll i
received these during the legacy drivers.

according to your statement, the driver will only
work on kernel versions: x.x.18/20/22 and intended
for the RH distro. meaning the driver have only been
tested on RH-patched 2.4.x linux kernel and not on
the "vanilla" (or pure?) kernel.
