That was the quick answer.  The real answer would be it depends.  My suggestion was 
made from experience on real office scenarios. X + Gnome + Mozilla + Evolution + Open 
Office + some KDE apps takes its toll on memory.  I also anticipated some of GIMP and 
remote audio.  Plus, from what I've observed new users love the virtual desktops that 
they tend to leave applications open.

I think you can make do with 32Mb/client but only if they are not used simultaneously 
or that you use light weight apps or window managers. Using a SCSI disk and delegating 
some server functions to other servers should also help.
