As far as I can remember, bf2.4 worked fine during the installation.  I
have the habit of customizing the kernel for production machines to
match my needs, though. Plus, we've got DRBD running.

No third party drivers needed. We use the vanilla 2.4.26 kernel.
Performance is quite good. Even the GbE NICs work well. It's primarily a
high-availability PostgreSQL server, but has other services we need for
the network, as well.
