That I understood. I just meant to comment that I'm
quite happy with redraw speed on OS X and WinXP so
that would not be a plus for Athene vis-a-vis with
these two.

There are tons more stuff going on behind the scenes
with Windows and OS X (and even X) versus Atehene so it's
not an apples-to-apples comparison by a long shot.

It's pretty likely that if Athene/Snap based desktops
have all the bells and whistles of these more mature
environments, there will be a corresponding speed
degradation in widget responsiveness.

Still, this looks like fertile ground for those
developers seeking an alternative graphics architecture
for desktop Linux, who aren't ideologically married to
the GPL or even Open Source, and who like to opportunity
(or have the masochistic streak ;-) to do/invent things
from scratch on what could be a well-engineered and
probably even superior (to existing Linux solutions
at least), base.

Scitech, the guys behind SNAP, have been around for
a long time and do seem to know their low-level
graphics technology. Even if you believe in sticking
to X, their graphics driver for X (XFree-compatible,
I believe) looks like a good product to consider using.
