I just bought an Intel Pentium 4 machine with a hyperthreading technology. What i did is to enable hyperthreading into its BIOS and recompile my Fedora Core 2 kernel (2.6.8-1.521) enabling CONFIG_SMP and CONFIG_NR_CPUS to 8. My problem is everytime i issue commands after applying its newly compiled kernel and reboot, it usually hangs... Did i missed something in here? Im also using grub as my bootloader

Intel P4 Hyperthreading cannot be considered as true SMP. It's architecture is designed to emulate a second CPU only. LINUX SMP kernels are hardware dependents, meaning you need to actually have two physical CPUs to make use of SMP. With P4, you're better off using the default single processor kernel.
