Hi all, I'm currently involved at a survey project for my local parish that just recently concluded conducting a general survey of the local Daet populace. The project generated a rather big set of inputs from over 8,000 households, and roughly half of those inputs will be used in the Diocese of Daet's 5-year pastoral planning and long-term goal mapping. To achieve that, I've been asked to design and implement a database solution that will collect the inputs and process them into tables and charts, from which the Diocese will base their plans.
The code itself is a no-brainer, just a few lines of Perl and DBD::MySQL. The interface is web-based, and I've set up a server here in my home box to start encoding the survey data. However, the sheer volume of the data implies that I'll be done at the end of the world, whereas this data is needed by early February at the latest. Thus, I resolved to recruit some of the local gentry to help me with the encoding, which I have just begun to train now. Now, my problem is not that lack of people who will work for this project, but rather the PC hardware needed to get going. While it might be true in some circles that rapid decreases in costs don't make this a problem anymore, in the case of our parish, our resources are stretched to the limit, since we're not just implementing this project alone, but also other projects of the evangelical and outreach nature. So, in short, we don't have enough money to buy even a set of old, underpowered machines mostly heard and seen in newspaper ads and tabloids. Thus, is there someone, a foundation, sponsor or somesuch, here in the Philippines or abroad, that would help me in my plight? I've done some research on fgi[1], and yes, there's a lot of results, but I've no experience or expertise on such affairs. Has anyone had a similar prob before? I would appreciate pointers to more information greatly. Donations of old and (mis)used hardware, even more.
