Recently I tried to get a USB multiple card reader working with my
laptop running Linux 2.6.9. I got similar messages as the ones you and
Dr. Manalastas posted, which are caused by the ub driver. I searched
around and many users suggested doing two things. First, one must
disable the ub driver completely. I had it compiled as a module instead of
statically, but this wasn't enough because hotplug would insist on
loading the ub module as soon as I plugged the hardware in. Second, one
must enable scanning of multiple LUNs for SCSI.

With both these changes implemented, plugging the multiple card reader
worked fine. Hotplug loaded the usb-storage driver, which scanned all
the readers and created the necessary sdX device nodes in /dev.

I figure the same solution will help you with your "Guru" thumbdisk. I
have no problems getting thumbdisks working with my laptop. Good luck!
