You're referring to an acoustic coupler. Haven't seen those in over 10
years. Limited to 1200 bps, maybe even 300.

As to connecting to the Net through a cell phone, I once did that, and
after I saw my bill the next month, I swore it off.

BTW, I don't quite get the original idea of using Sun's 24/7 to connect to
the Internet.

Hmmm... you're probably looking for something analog. GSM transmits in 
digital. I don't have any experience connecting to the internet through 
celfones but maybe one of the old modems where you have to attach a 
receiver and transmitter directly over the mouthpiece and earpiece will 
work. Just guessing... Assuming it works perfectly(and you can still 
find one, and it will be slow as hell), you'd still get disconnected 
every 15 minutes. Sun disconnects all calls at that time. :D
