Actually Microsoft does issue IE patches more or less
regularly.  And to be fair, I've noticed that people
who leave their auto update running in the background
are now far less susceptible to viruses, trojans and
other malware than before.

The whole notion of auto-updating reeks though.  I can
imagine the next form of attack to come in the form
of malicious updates, i.e. find a way to trick Windows
into getting its updates from a different source.  This
is potentially a nightmare scenario.

Anyway, to go back to the topic of XUL, since it's now a very
freindly package to install and Firefox has been steadily
gaining cachet, I imagine you would face a lot less resistance
to people installing it on their machines nowadays.
