Use urpmi[1] to save yourself from the hassle of installing from source.
Issue the folowing as root to install xmule:

urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/mandrake/free/10.1 with 
hdlist.cz
urpmi --media plf-free xmule
