Well,  schools are a  good place to start advocacy:) Maybe we could
also try and see how SMEs could benefit from using F/OSS. 
Alternatives to what people currently know  are what we need to give
them so that they would give it a try... And eventually, they would
prefer it :D

Or we could go to various schools.  There are existing student
organizations which could be tapped so we could have talks, fora,
symposia, etc on their campuses.  Coordinating with the student
councils and  computer clubs for one thing.  And in high schools, in
case you are a professional, you may give career talks ;) Just things
I thought of.
