Huh? Doesn't the host controller drivers tell you? Maybe you ought to
try workin on that, even if there's a USB PCI card already in place. I
have a perfectly old ECS K7AMA3 mobo with USB 2.0 and that works great,
even on 2.6.

Or like what Dean said, it could be the IDE bridge, maybe conflicting
with the USB HC and mayhaps affecting DMA.
