1. someone or something is mangling your packets
2. broken hardware, probably overheating too
3. bad memory
4. software (kernel, openssh, shell(ie. bash)

try transferring big files via netcat pipes between the hosts
and check their md5/sha1/rmd160 sums for inconsistencies
