Yes Matt, that is correct. Though Synaptic/Apt-get is also available on Fedora distros, users can only use remote repositories (I think, correct me if I'm wrong here). Unlike with Debian/Ubuntu, there's a convenience of using cdrom installers as application repositories for Synaptic and apt-get. Fedora apt-get repos host a handful of applications compared to Debian/Ubuntu's apt-get repos. Most of the applications I need are available on Ubuntu apt-get repo.
