Have a notebook (compaq armada 1750) which has almost exactly like your specs. Ubuntu works fine. Was using warty 4.xx and the only thing that you have to take note is that you have to use for now APM instead of ACPI. Ubuntu installation defaults to using ACPI, and if that happens, CPU fan does not run, and the notebook turns itself off after 10 minutes or so due to probably CPU overheat. that's for this notebook anyways. Maybe they have fixed it on the latest Ubuntu hoary 5.x. Have not tried it yet.
