Something that has served me well is to stop assuming I know what the problem is/might-be, and start asking questions. Ask simple questions. Get the other person to teach you about whats going on, how, when, any ideas they have on why (they use the system on a regular basis, they are more apt to know what is normal and what isn’t). Perhaps this will help you gather enough information that you can then start forming questions for google, or even other people.
