A good concept. I suspect, however, that volunteer readers would need
to be
taught how to read for a listening audience. I'm sure it requires skills
that we don't acquire when reading to ourselves or to kids.
/How to Speak the Written Word/ by Nedra Newkirk Lamar teaches this
skill. It's listed on Amazon.com as having been published in 1987, but
it's been in print a lot longer. My copy says if was first copyrighted
in 1949.
Guys like Walter Kronkite, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley and other TV
newscasters used it back in the '60s. I recommend it to anyone who plans
to read aloud.
