You are probably going to need to describe the problems a little more
completely to prompt useful thoughts on the subject, particularly since
the population of people with your hardware today is likely to be small.
While we are waiting for those, I'll just share my fun experience from
Wednesday evening when I thought I'd try to print something from either
of my inkjet printers: a pre-chip HP deskjet and a Brother. "F-you, low
on Cyan!" or equivalent from each one. I had a colleague print it for me
and it reminded me I should get a laser printer.
