While I sympathize in your pain over losing a cherished username on github, I reject your proposed solution.
The current owner of that username on github is *not* a spammer. There is no content on the profile, repos, etc. that shows spamming like behavior. Therefore reporting this user as a spammer is dishonest and likely won't have an effect. A moderator will take a look at the account and see no spamming and ignore the reports. Additionally, starting a mob campaign to abuse the "Report User" function is unethical. You should use proper channels to get support from Github. The current profile shows the account was created March 9, 2019. If your account was hacked then deleted so the new owner could start over, then you have a good clear case for Github support to reclaim your username. While I won't abuse a "Report User" function to make a false statement about spamming, I *do* wish you luck in your support case to reclaim your old username. --lonnie On Fri, Mar 22, 2019 at 3:19 PM AJ ONeal (Home) <coola...@gmail.com> wrote: > Someone hijacked the redirects from my old github username: > https://github.com/coolaj86 > > *Would y'all who know me mind taking a minute to click "Report User" and > let github know that that's a spam account?* > > I was going to let it redirect for a few weeks and then claim it back for > myself so that this exact thing wouldn't happen, but apparently I'm more > popular than I thought and some malicious person stole it right out from > under me. > > For those of you that don't know me, this can be verified at > https://twitter.com/coolaj86 and https://facebook.com/coolaj86 (and a few > other online accounts). > > Many thanks. > > AJ ONeal > https://git.coolaj86.com > > /* > PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net > Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug > Don't fear the penguin. > */ > /* PLUG: http://plug.org, #utah on irc.freenode.net Unsubscribe: http://plug.org/mailman/options/plug Don't fear the penguin. */
