I can't help with your issue 2, but issue 1 is a known problem and has a
solution (that worked for me). For full details and explanation see the
thread I started. The quick answer is that some people (not everyone)
need to edit mplayer.sh so that the line

app=mplayer

reads

app=/usr/local/bin/mplayer

That's assuming you have mplayer in /usr/local/bin, of course.
