I think I'm going to let it pass for a while, given that my own setup
with the other version of mplayer is working ok, but I may try again
later with a fuller log and running from the command line. But I'll
give some more suggestions for others. We've now found out (see other
thread) that Scott has things working with the files I suggested to
him.

I find it a bit weird that, swapping the versions of mplayer in and out
of /usr/local/bin, both versions of mplayer work when run directly but
only one works from SlimServer. And both seem to have the same
permissions, namely Owner read and write, group and others read only
(as does the cook.bundle).

The problem may well be specific to that version of mplayer, which is
described as "Tiger only".

Anyway, for anyone still trying to get AlienBBC to work on a Mac, the
page I tried to give does have the cook.bundle that works for me
(10.0.0.0, not the smaller 10.0.0.332) if one downloads reallib, and on
that page there are several versions of mplayer to try out. However, the
forum abbreviates long Web addresses (this can be a real hassle, but I
don't suppose anything can be done about it), so instructions I gave
did not come through properly and best is to go to
http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/ and then click on "download files"
(top left), and download reallib.zip and some version of lastbinaries
(which has mplayer inside it).

The version of mplayer I have, that I know works, is dated 16/11/2004,
and does not seem to be on that download page. I would suggest the
first one to try from there is lastbinary 21104.zip, which does provide
a slightly different version of mplayer, dated 21/10/2004.

Then the rest of the instructions are as given.
