Yes, there are various tools out there (although the ones you mention
appear to be for windows or something, I'm a unix user!).
I like EasyTag for Linux (http://easytag.sourceforge.net/).

However, as I only ever play the audio from within the slimserver
software, and it has it's own database, it makes most sense for it to
call 'id3' or some suchlike software, with the correct arguments.
I agree with you. Even though I have a way of tagging my files outside
of slimserver, it would be nice to be able to tag a file when you notice
a screwed up tag from the web interface. I imagine executing 'id3tag'
or 'id3v2' from slimserver wouldn't be very difficult. I already have
both of these installed on my Fedora Core 4 box and use them manually
from time to time.
There's a Perl module already there to use -- the module Slimserver uses
to read tags writes them too. Problem is that Template Toolkit and the
skin infrastructure is muy dificil for me to get my head around in the
10 minutes per week that I could afford to a side project... I last
looked at this problem in version 5.x, not sure if things have gotten
easier or harder.
