For music that I rip from CDs, I get all the tagging sorted out and rename the files in "artist/album/track - title" structure before I rescan. However, I have a load of older ripped music that isn't in a nice format, and I download a lot of live concerts where people really haven't gone to a lot of bother to enter tags or create neat filenames. I'm constantly going through my collection sorting out the tags and renaming the files to match my neat structure. Also, due to disk constraints, I often move chunks of artists to different disks. It's not a major problem, I'll just lose part of my stats when it happens. As long as the purge is there so I don't end up with loads of redundant entries coming back in the stats results.
