You certainly do not "need" it. I have Squeeze Ctrl too, and its a great app.(I also use SB Player to send to a BT sepaker - wanted to use a Pi0W but WiFi and BT didn't seem to mix well) I started Material as I wanted an easy, and nice looking, way for others to control my LMS.
