Your problem sounds very much like one some of us were having a few
months back where the audio output would be mysteriously muted after
pausing or changing tracks. The workaround was to go into the LMS
Administration Player/Audio settings for each CC player and make sure
that the Volume Control parameter is set to "Volume controls adjust
outputs", and not "Output level is fixed at 100%". If you want to give
it a try, you might be able to avoid the overhead involved in
transcoding unnecessarily.
