I had enabled remote login On my ubuntu music server I have not enabled 22 in for any device, and unless you intend to ssh into your server you shouldn't need to do so. I have not changed any outward rules from standard on my server.
I only get the message you see if remote login is not enabled. Can you check again, and double check the IP? When you turn it on it should tell you the user (root) and password.
