The LMS web interface will tell you on the bottom of the screen if there is an update. Pretty sure Material has an update notifier too. If you see that, then yes, press the "Nightly Update" button. This will only update LMS, you will still need to check plugins for updates too. You can of course press the update button as much as you want, if there is no update, then nothing much happens. The main reason that I added LMS8 as the default install, was the majority of folks wanting all of the new Music library stuff with Spotty. If I revert to 7.9.3, then those new features go away.
