It should be perfectly possible to continue using LMS as it is but only as long as you don't update the Synology OS to DSM 7 and don't update the Perl package in DSM beyond 5.24 (you can turn off auto-updates). You'll be stuck with the current LMS for synology release by pinkdot (if that's what you're using) unless someone else packages it for Synology. You might not be happy to keep the diskstation running old software (?) If your 420J supports docker you could look at using LMS in a docker container instead, and update to your heart's content!
