That is indeed strange that you dont experience it as much!. For me it is rare that a playlist plays two songs one after another without intervention from me to click the next button to choose the next track. It pauses at the end of the track
There isn't another instance of Spotify running somewhere else? You can only ever use one instance at any given time. If somewhere else (somebody else!) was using your account at the same time, this would lead to stopping playback all the time.
