Thinking about this some more, & maybe clutching at straws...
A day or two before receiving the block I had rebooted twice & updated a couple of plugins. Just guessing, but maybe this triggered too many automatic scans in too short a space of time? I removed the client ID & disabled any Online Integration so Spotty is working again - for now at least.
