Hi, I've worked out what the problem was, I think it was a mis-understanding on how the system worked, or possibly not ready the instructions, hey I'm a programmer :)
What I was doing was entering the values in the table and then clicking on the "add route" button then clicking on the save/apply. Because the I had clicked on the "add route" button it had an empty route before trying to save, this was making the validation fail and so it wasn't then saving the data.
