Yes - squeezenetwork is basically a broker - it sets up connections
between and SB and a broadcaster.  Once setup SN onlyhas to send the
display data which is relatively a small amount of data  and not very
often (probably a screen every sec or 0.5 sec) and it is not time
critical - there is no stuttering if screen update is late.  

To transcode require requires significant processing but then SN also
needs to be become broadcaster so it will need large network bandwidth
for audio and a banks of more powerful  servers to transcode and server
the audio.  Furthermore there may be the more difficult possible issue
of copyright/unlicensed use of data  as transcoding modifies the data
stream by a 3rd party commercial entity and not by the end user.
