"low powered NAS" such as Linksys NLSU2, Linkstation, QNAP, Synology DS-101 etc. - memory and limited CPU processing power means 7,0 doesn;t run well on them and they best stay on 6.5.
The current AlienBBC works by "screen scraping" which means taking a web page and taking elements from the page. The problem is if the web site design changes - the code has to be rewritten. The API provides the essential information (e.g. program name, description, URL) etc. in a formal defined way which means less maintenacne and usually quicker. The BBC have signalled they will be changing audio formats in the near future and so there will be more web changes whereas the API will remain constant. So maintenance will be less using API than "screen scraping". Because of changes in SC - the Alienbbc routine for 6.5 are different than for 7.x and so to keep Alienbbc 6.5 up to date will require updating old code ( which takes time to remember how the SS interfaces work) and also having old SS 6.5 systems ready on hand to test. So to keep both an 7.x and a 6.5 version current will mean doing code twice, testing twice and maintaining a working SC 7.x latest beta version, SC 7.x release version and SS 6.5 system as well as answering any questions/problems that follow a new release.
