There might be a difference if you use a standard static saved playlist or a dynamic playlist (provided by Random Mix or Dynamic Playlist plugin). I think these two cases are a bit different both in the alarm handling code but also in the "play" code. However, from SqueezeCenter's point of view, a playlist provided by Random Mix or Dynamic Playlist should be pretty similar.
