Sometimes it's just too perfect, people like you and I can't understand :)
But, I suspect Spotlight checks for some flags in the filesystem to get the authorization to index or not (see the mdls, mdutil, mdimport... commands under the command-line.) And, fact is, trying to index a cache directory would be as strenuous as useless.
