Then you're no doubt looking in the wrong plugins folder, and I suspect
that has been at the heart of your problem all through this process.
Most likely you were doing manual installs and attempting fixes in one
directory, and the Extension Downloader was installing in another. 

For example, with debian there is a folder
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins that is typically empty. All the
plugins installed via ED are in
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/. There are
parallels in Windows, but of course the specific locations are
different (and vary with different flavors of Windows). Do a search for
the file Plugins-SuperDateTime-Plugin.par and you should find the right
directory.
