Yes, the Musicbrainz change in May can definitely cause lost ratings if
you have multiple occurrences of a specific recording, for example a
normal album and compilation album. I haven't analyzed exactly which
one it picks, it might be random or it might have some logic but I'm
fairly sure it's something that isn't handled correctly today.
However, if we ignore the duplicate scenario, the following should be
supported in other cases without loosing ratings (assuming your library
only contains one occurrence of this recording):
- Addition or removal of Musicbrainz Track Id tag as long as the file
path remains the name.
- Rename/move the file as long as the Musicbrainz Track Id exist and is
the same as before.
It won't work properly if there are multiple occurrences of the
recording and you have retagged your library after May 2011, since the
musicbrainz change in May means that Musicbrainz Track Id no longer is
unique for a specific track, it's only unique for a specific recording.
