Hi,
I thought I would post this one on the forum to see if others have had
the same problem.
When I started ripping music I used Windows Media Player to rip to
MP3.
When completed the tags "looked ok" and complete. However, since I have
put my music library onto a Windows Home Server Version 1, I have
noticed that the tags are not correct.
I use the W.H.S for my library together with Muso as a front end, so
anyone on my home network can use it. Muso found an anomoly that I
hadn't seen before; when using just the players (3 x Classic, 1 x Duet,
1 x Touch). There appears to be a 30 character limit on my early tags.
Now whether this is a common feature I don't know, but if accessing the
music files on the server, the title/artist etc all appear complete,
but on playing the files, Muso and the players only see the first 30
characters/spaces on those tags.
I have now started to re-rip those early tracks. I have used
dbpoweramp for a few years now and there does not appear to be the
character limit on those tracks I ripped to MP3 and latterly Flac.
The reason I hadn't noticed before, was because the music played
correctly and I didn't regularly look at the player in use. Having
Muso full screen, made the recurring errors easy to see and going back
through my library has shown that early Media Player tracks had this
limitation.
I suspect I am not the only person who has suffered this problem.
I hope this is of help to other users. To rectify the problem,
requires a re-rip. I did try to amend the tags, but it didn't work.
