Have you specified the port in iPeng?

https://myserver.com would translate into "https://myserver.com:443";.

That said: I have no idea whether SSL would work, especially for the
comet connection that is being used for most of the communication.
Also: _IF_ you get that to work then you'd have to configure your
server to use port 443 on your local network, too, and I'm not sure
_that_ is going to work, the port will probably not be available.

Also, I'm not sure that the whole HTTPS tunneling thing will work at
all. This is not a web site, a lot of the communication uses different
protocols even though the comet connection is technically an HTTP
stream.

Why don't you just use a VPN?
