I was not aware of this solution, so I implemented the Airplay functionality for Squeezebox/LMS using an Apple TV device connected via optical SPDIF with the USB sound card optical SPDIF input of my server computer hosting LMS, using VAC (virtual audio cable, see http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.htm) and the WaveInput plugin.
