The volume should not be 100% by default, unless you set it like that in
LMS options (see 'Power on Resume' and 'Volume Control'). Then you have
2 options to handle volume commands by LMS, in the plugin settings. If
you set "ignore all changes", there is simply no command sent, as PasTim
explained. If you set "only when playing", LMS volume commands will be
sent only when LMS has required to play a song, which should mean that
you *want* it to control volume at that precise time (as opposed to play
something on the upnp device from another source and accidentally change
sound on LMS).

Regarding XML file direct changes, no problem will happen if you stop
the plugin before. If you do these while the plugin is running, there
are a few case where a conflict can happen

LMS 7.7.2 - 5 radio, 3 Boom, 4 Duet, 1 Touch, 1 SB2. Sonos 2xPLAY:1,
PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, JBL OnBeat, XBMC, Foobar2000, XBoxOne
(sort of)
