After a week of testing I have come to the conclusion that the only changes to the default required for this player are as follows:
<device> <sample_rate>96000</sample_rate> <codecs>flc,pcm,mp3</codecs> <stream_length>-3</stream_length> </device> The player plays long playlists without any issues with pause and restart working flawlessly, and also plays internet radio streams (BBC iPlayer) for long periods without issue. The player has both HDMI audio/video and coax spdif simultaneous outputs.
