Fascinating Dr. Mulick. Thanks for your views on this, including your
comments about phenotypes. I know you are familiar with Richard Dawkins'
writing on The Extended Phenotype - and Daniel Dennett on the evolution of
life and logic of natural selection and hierarchy of life at which natural
selection can be said to act. I know Dennett, who teaches philosophy, is
an ethologist (as opposed to an ethnologist) but I'm still a bit confused
about ethnology as a sub-type or a field of study? Why not simply call it
the study of development of people/culture (and what they do) or simply
anthropology? Isn't that what it is?
I read something about Grandin. That is the one who I believe draws the
link between autism and (I believe) dogs. Wouldn't it also be very
unusual for someone to have autism, as she claims, and get through
post-doc?
There are so many exciting new fields today, like sociobiology and
ethologists. I almost wish I could start over and get into anything
dealing with moleculur theory, the Genome, biological ethics, etc. Much of
it is way above my pay grade and comprehension but that is almost all I
read, except for politics (g).
