There was a psychiatrist who was Jewish and he wrote a
fascinating book on Abraham and Isaac arguing that the
moment in human history where Abraham sacrificed the
Ram instead of his son was a significant step forward
for humanity. Surely it was even a greater step
forward to move beyond animal sacrifice. Sadly,
through the distancing capacity of modernity, we have
slipped into technological barbarism. We raise our
children with war toys and brutal images and think
nothing of it.
Torturing animals in the name of science has a touch
of the Buchenwald about it,
