Your message below demonstrates a difficult moral position. When hopelessly
anthropomorphizing, a gourmet can elect vegetarianism, but this wrinkle you
assert requires you to forego the fruits of both 21st and 20th century
medicine. I think you can get bleeding cups in an antique store; leaches can
now be ordered from medical supply houses because they have been
rediscovered as useful in reestablishing blood flow in the treatment of
gangrene and limb reattachment after accidental amputation; useless
botanicals are currently sold in pharmacies under naturopathic and
especially homeopathic labels. Purgatives are widely available, although
vomiting might come easily if you just imagine the things research students
do with animals when learning basic surgical techniques. Just use these
items liberally for whatever illness you think you have (don't get an x-ray,
because safe levels of exposure are established using animal dose-response
models) But don't present yourself to an ER or seek a cure from a hospital.
It is all morally tainted by animal research; everything they have to offer.
You are aware, I assume, that research conducted by the Nazis and Japanese
during WW II in violation of human rights is not accessible to scientists
because of its moral taint. You should live consistently with your values
just like members of the biological science community do if you expect
anyone else to take you seriously.

There was a psychiatrist who was Jewish and he wrote a fascinating book on
Abraham and Isaac arguing that the moment in human history where Abraham
sacrificed the Ram instead of his son was a significant step forward for
humanity. Surely it was even a greater step forward to move beyond animal
sacrifice. Sadly, through the distancing capacity of modernity, we have
slipped into technological barbarism. We raise our children with war toys
and brutal images and think nothing of it.
Torturing animals in the name of science has a touch of the Buchenwald about
it,
