It is About Cheap Labor
Our interests are not the same as the capitalists. Capitalism is an
unstable economic system which is tied (or was in the past) to production
and when there was overproduction labor was laid off or a market was
created for goods which created economic booms which happens when there
are wars. Hundreds of thousands were put to work during WWII which pulled
us out of a recession.
Robots and digital technology also does the work that people use to do
which have caused workers to be laid off, but capitalists figured out that
it was the cost of the labor that drove down costs even labor replacing
technology which could be much lower - so jobs were moved to where they
were cheaper and Free Trade and Globalization if were ways to make goods
cheaply and increase profits while lowering wages in America and forcing
those who lost their jobs into service jobs which never paid enough to
live. No wonder poverty is so high.
Poverty is increasing among all groups (what middle class?) and people are
drowning in debt - the highest levels ever. Workers are losing pensions,
everything they worked for all their lives. Everything the government does
is for the benefit of corporations. We have already lost our middle class.
Unions are dead or they side with corporations.
It is all bad so there is no one thing which is the worst of it but what
is driving America into a Third World country itself is debt. We are a
consuming society and other countries need us to consume and the only way
to do that is to loan us money so they buy our debt. But it won't last. It
won't last because we eventually will not be able to buy those imports and
the economy will collapse.
Patrick says he doesn't approve of blood soaked economies. Well, that is
what we have. And the war isn't going to save us - though it may prolong
the agony.
Everyone wants more money put into social services but the government will
cut corporate taxes before it do anything to reduce poverty. It is easy to
see why immigration is an issue which so divides even the Republicans, but
Bush is no dummy and he and those who drive this economy for corporate
profit know that the only thing which really matters is CHEAP LABOR and
that is why there will be an amnesty for illegal immigrants. Nobody on the
left is against immigration and few on the right want to keep out those
who need asylum, but that was never at issue. It is cheap labor which is
the issue.
Cheap labor is why there is out-sourcing and amnesty for illegal
immigrants is because of cheap labor for those jobs which can't be
outsourced.
