I haven’t looked at the PoDoFo code in a while, but IIRC zyx is correct that the FreeType code will work for both Mac and Win and should be just fine. Check the Mac build configurations.
There used to be native Mac code for font handling but that was removed a while back when Apple dropped the Carbon support.
