I used to be ashamed of myself for not writing the kind of non-technical documentation / overview you mention. I even forced myself into doing it, sometimes. But I'm not good at it. I'm in the same position as you : I'm hoping someone will do it, eventually. I would help sorting things out as much as needed, to make sure the auto documentation is generated at each release and published somewhere, analyzing the consequence of each release to the documentation etc.
