Everything will work fine as long as the laptop and the desktop have
more or less synchronised clocks (i.e. they don't differ by more than
a few seconds) and you *don't* use the --inplace option to rsync.
In order to be really sure you don't lose any data, you'll want to do it
as follows:
on both machines, kill -USR1 polipo
sleep 2
rsync whatever
on the destination machine, kill -USR2 polipo
Once again, *do not* use the --inplace option to rsync, you'd risk cache
corruption.
